Never thought I'd be into something like this. I mean, all I remember about this dude is that he was a slick game-show host with perfect hair and an Ultra Brite smile. But listening to it you sense that John was saying, "Take me seriously as an artist" in the same way that, say, Jack Jones did when he hooked up with David Gates on "Bread Winners." And it winds up being sort of cool, especially so because the Wrecking Crew is the backing band. At any rate, here's a fresh vinyl rip for you.
Great album. Thank you! Listened with great pleasure. I've been looking for him too, but did not find one.
ReplyDeleteIf it has the WC on it I'm in! Thanks for putting this up.
ReplyDeleteYou even have an autographed copy. Bastard.
ReplyDeleteDavidson made his name as a singer before he ever took over hosting Hollywood Squares from that other former crooner, Peter Marshall. He was a pretty good singer and his squeaky clean good looks and image got him on a lot of TV variety shows before he landed the Squares gig. His albums are scarce, this is one I've never seen, so many thanks for expanding our musical horizons and collections.
ReplyDeleteSorry ... I don't have that one, but I'll keep an eye open for it.
ReplyDeleteRan into him on 6th & Bleecker once where he aksed direx to John's Pizza.
ReplyDelete-"2 blocks up that way on the left, John..."
ReplyDeleteThanks, EW!
With a cover like that, maybe he's not so square after all. Thanks, by the way, for putting me on your blogroll.
