The Music of Julius Wechter

Another rare one, this a showcase of tunes from the leader of the Baja Marimba Band. BTW, I've noticed that many of my older zippy links are dead. The only reason I can figure is that someone has performed a hit job on this site. That's too bad, because everyone loses. For those you clamoring for re-ups, possibly the only thing that would motivate me to do that would be for you to click on the yellow "donate" button over there on the upper right.

Judy Singh

Here's a real rare one - so rare that it fetches upward of $1,000 in collector circles. The thing is, it is pretty great; Canadian Judy has a very sweet and soulful way with a tune. If anyone has "Make Someone Happy," the record she made with Tommy Banks, please post a link in the comments.

The Decline of Spengler

In the last few weeks I've lost two dear friends, one to cancer, the other to something I do not yet know. And on Wednesday, my mother-in-law passed. My heart is broken. In a fragile state came these songs. These are for you Dann and Joe and Maxine. Missing you.

The Mellow Moods of Eliot Wilder

Sorry about the lack of posts. For the past six weeks I've been laid low with an exceedingly painful neurological illness. At any rate, here is a collection of some of my quieter songs. Only available here.

Cymbal and Clinger

I just read a wonderful article on the Clinger Sisters in the latest issue of Ugly Things, so I thought I'd post this cool record, which features the late, great Peggy.

After a bit of work, I finally tracked this one down. Very cool little folk-rock record with some beautifully understated orchestral arrangements by Charlie Calello, who worked with the likes of Laura Nyro during her peak. Thanks to Rick for breaking up the tracks!

Alas, it appears that someone is deleting links here and there. I don't know what their game is, but if someone wants to spoil the party, well, there ain't a lot I can do about it. I won't be re-upping anything anymore (so grab what you can while you can).

Excellent country-rock record from a former Blue Thing. Sounds at times a bit like Gene Clark.

Yep, this one's glaringly out of character with most of what appears on Ol' Mondo, but it's such a beautiful (and rare) record that I felt the need to share it. For more on David McComb, check out his work with the Triffids, yet another great, underrated Aussie band.

The Good Time SIngers

Pick up a recent issue of Ugly Things, as I did, and read about the sad and strange life of former Monkees songwriter and Penny Arkade member Craig Smith. The near-book-length article inspired me to track down this record, which is, as it turns out, a little too Up With People cornball for my own tastes. But I thought that since I went to the trouble of ripping it, I'd share it with you nonetheless. Besides, it's on classic-period Capitol and David Gates wrote a few tunes. (I stuck a few stray tracks that I found around the internet on the end.) Update: songs are now broken into individual tracks.
